VSA Music Program Delights Penfield Kids
Once again, Penfield Children’s Center is fortunate to have an Artist in Residence from Madison-based VSA arts of Wisconsin. Musician Naomi Bodine entertains and teaches Penfield kids about the joys of music every Friday morning.
VSA arts of Wisconsin provides programs in dance, drama, creative writing, music, and visual art conducted by professional artists for children and adults with disabilities. Serving children from birth to age six, VSA’s Early Childhood Program “uses the arts as a tool 1) to better prepare children with disabilities, and those at risk, to succeed when they enter the typical school environment; 2) to train early childhood educators to use the arts to foster literacy and support physical, social and emotional growth, and 3) encourage the role of parents in providing optimal growth and development for their children.” (www.vsawis.org)
Penfield is one of 12 early childhood sites statewide chosen for VSA arts’ 2007/8 Artist Residency Program. Penfield’s VSA arts program runs for 10 weeks from February through April and includes in-service training for Penfield teachers.
