Birth-to-3 services are available
to children who demonstrate a 25% delay in at least one of
the areas of development (socialization/behavior, cognition,
gross and fine motor skills and language skills) and to children
with a diagnosed condition that puts them at risk for developmental
delays.
Cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, respiratory disorders, sight
and hearing impairments, hydrocephalus, and disabilities resulting
from extreme pre-maturity, are some of the diagnosed conditions
that qualify children for birth-to-three services.
Penfield provides early intervention services:
- in the child's home.
- in Penfield's classrooms staffed by exceptional education
teachers, early childhood teachers and therapists.
- in the Special Care Nursery for medically fragile and high
risk children.
- in speech/language groups that focus on speech therapy
and socialization.
- in full-day, early childhood enrichment classes where typically
developing children and children with special needs learn
and play together
- in community day care centers where Penfield's special
education teachers and therapists provide their early intervention
expertise to children and staff.
